We're almost halfway through September.
It's Life Insurance Awareness Month.

No one walks in the room at 65 and says, “I’m so excited to be losing my life insurance!”

Term insurance is a race against death you don’t want to win.
Life insurance is meant to last your lifetime.

My health the last two years has prevented me from putting the right number in place so my wife doesn't have to worry about replacing me if I get hit by a bus later today.

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month. It also means we're rapidly approaching the end of the calendar year.

Here are some deadlines to be aware of if you're a Northwestern Mutual client or you've been considering working with a NW advisor:

Sept. 24 - Deadline to submit a new Simple IRA if you want to make a 2020 contribution.

Oct. 2 - Deadline for recharacterization of a 2019 IRA contribution and removal of excess for 2019.

Dec. 11 - Last day for *guaranteed* processing for new 529 plans to be funded before December 31st.

It’s election season. We are seeing some of our clients using the upcoming election to make financial decisions.

Do I act now, or do I wait?

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance recently published something I thought I’d like to share.

In a recent article called “The Election and Your Money: How the presidential candidates’ stances on financial issues will affect your money,” some interesting numbers were discussed.

Since 1928 (the year before the Depression), annualized returns for the S&P 500 have averaged 13.3 percent under Democrats, compared to 7.7 percent under Republicans, according to InvestTech Research.

But keep a close eye on market indexes. If they’re up in the 3 months preceding the election, the incumbent wins 87 percent of the time.

These statistics say so much, and they also leave so much to the unknown.

Do: Vote. No matter what. In-person or mail-in.
Don’t: Make financial decisions around the election without speaking with a financial professional.
