๐ With the Indianapolis 500 right around the corner, let's dive into a little history of The Greatest Spectacle in Racing! Follow along over the next few days to learn about the history, traditions and a few fun facts about the race that has spanned over 110 years!

The very first Indianapolis 500 was held on May 30, 1911. An estimated 80,000 spectators watched as 40 drivers competed in the 500 mile, 200 lap race ๐๏ธ. Driver Ray Harroun won the race driving the Marmon Wasp at an average speed of just under 75 mph, a huge accomplishment for the time ๐.
Over 100 years later, the Indy 500 continues to represent speed, innovation, and pushing boundaries. Just this past Sunday, the fastest average qualifying speed was set by Alex Palou at 232.348 mph, earning him the pole position for this years race ๐.
