"You are no longer presumed innocent in Indiana"
Today marks 175 years since Indiana ratified its Constitution.
This November, Hoosiers will be asked whether to change its protection for bail. Public Question 1 would allow courts to deny bail in more cases, meaning more people could be jailed before trial and before they have been convicted of a crime.
Judges can already set release conditions to protect public safety. Before voting “yes” or “no,” know what this amendment would change and what is at stake.
We’ll be sharing more information and resources about Public Question 1 in the weeks ahead.
