An EF2 tornado touched down in part of southeast Indiana during the severe storms that tore through the region Thursday morning.

🚨 The day we've been tracking is here. EF3+ tornadoes are possible today across Illinois and Indiana, including around Springfield, Peoria, and Champaign.

That's the kind that can level a sturdy house. The storms that fire this afternoon and stay on their own are the dangerous ones, before they clump into a line. Not everyone sees a tornado, but any storm out there today deserves your full attention.

If these storms deliver, we'll likely be live around 5 this evening.

🚨 Dangerous day of thunderstorms ahead:

Supercell thunderstorms with a significant tornado threat are expected across central Illinois into Northwest Indiana this afternoon. Wind shear will be extremely favorable for these supercells despite possibly sub-par thermodynamics due to an early round of storms through the risk area.

If sufficient airmass recovery occurs behind the first round of storms, the second round will pose a fast moving, potentially violent tornado threat from the Peoria, IL area to nearly Fort Wayne, IN. If less recovery occurs than expected, the risk area may shrink somewhat. Regardless of early storm evolution, the environment tomorrow calls for extreme caution. Timing for the second round of storms is about 3pm-8pm for the man risk area, extending into the overnight hours for southern portions. Stay tuned to today’s forecast.
