👀The interaction in this post isn’t real, yet it’s an example of how scammers might try to steal your information.
SMS Fraud (sometimes called Phishing) is a text that usually includes a link, where someone is trying to gain personal details from you. These texts could include an “exclusive offer” or “prize”, or they may appear relevant to a transaction you’ve recently made.
🚫 If you receive an unexpected text message, avoid clicking links or responding until you have verified the sender independently.
📱 If you are unsure about a message, contact the company using an existing phone number or website (do not call the number in the text or click on links within it).
💬 You can take it a step further by blocking the number and reporting the fraud attempt. This can be done through your phone messaging app, and/or you can send a screenshot to the FTC.
