My Story (continued)
From where I left off, in March I had my 6th round of Chemo. From the MRI after that there was not any change pretty much one way or another. I had 2 more rounds of Chemo in April 2022 (8 round in all Jan. - Apr). At my next MRI there is no Cancer left. Just residual if anything. Great News!
To insure I have the best chance to stay that way long term I went on to do a Stem Cell Transplant. Early June they harvested my stem cells. June 14th I went into the hospital. 3 more different types of Chemo stronger then what I had before. From these Chemo treatments I did loose almost all my hair. All the other 8 rounds of Chemo prior I did not loose any hair.
June 20th was my Stem Cell Transplant. It went well. For the next couple of weeks recovering I did need 4 times platelets transfusion, but not a blood transfusion. At the end my Hemoglobin did get low but never low enough to need a transfusion. Although the lower the Hemoglobain the lower my energy was. From all of this I went down to no White Blood Cells at all. Once I got on the up swing of producing white blood celll it took off quite well. My numbers were good that on July 3, 2022, I was released from Simon Cancer Center to finish recovering at home. My recovery has gone fast.
My sister flew in from California on the 3rd and stayed till the 16th to help me out. My energy really started to come back on the 14th as my red blood cell count was now improving well. I had my MRI after the Stem Cell Transplant on July 14th. I am Cancer Free, no residual, no signs of Lymphoma. I BEAT CANCER! I got back the ability to drive from my Oncologist that day as well.
Now I am in a cycle of every 3 months getting an MRI to be sure all stays gone. My first 3-month MRI was on October 20, 2022. It came back still no signs of Lymphoma anywhere, still Cancer Free! My next scan will be in January.
On the Stem Cell Transplant side they were also pleased with the speed of recovery. I come back in June 2023 (1 yr. later) and start receiving all my childhood vaccines starting with the vaccines you get as a baby. At least in the interim once I was 3 months out from the Stem Cell Transplant I could and did start over with my Covid-19 Shots. I have had the 1st two injections of Pfizer.
My energy has come back well. I am pretty much like myself was before this all happened. Just some exercises to keep my right leg function as it should and keep improving my stride and eventually get to run normally. I am very thankful to my family, friends, co-workers, and everyone else for their tremendous support. I could not have made it through all of this without them.
