Sometimes people ask what makes the Haleh Krauter Agency different.

Tonight is a perfect example.

At 8:40 p.m., I was in bed watching Dutton Ranch when my phone rang. I probably would have ignored it…except the caller ID said State Farm Claims.

A customer’s home had just burned down. After-hours support was closed, and they needed somewhere to stay.

Claims put the customer on with me immediately, I found out they were a family of four—with a 50-pound dog—and asked where they wanted to stay. I headed to the hotel to make sure everything was taken care of.

On the way to the hotel, another customer texted me. Water had backed up into their basement. After talking through the damage, we determined it was mostly tile, concrete, and a few rugs she wasn’t concerned about. She decided she’d handle the cleanup herself, but I made sure she knew what to watch for and that we were here if she needed us.

Back to the first family…

I reserved their hotel room, put it on my personal credit card so they wouldn’t have to worry about it while standing there after losing their home, and then stopped at Walmart. I picked up a couple of toys for the kids, a toy for the dog, and some snacks so they’d have a little comfort waiting for them when they checked in.

Insurance isn’t just about policies.

It’s about showing up when someone’s worst day becomes their reality.

The 36th largest company in the United States thanks to our customers, agents who have dedicated their lives to taking care of people and living that only good neighbor motto so it's not just words and our founder George Jacob 'GJ' Mecherle, a farmer from Merna, Illinois.

His vision was a simple one and seeded in community and agents to serve the community.

Here are a few key details regarding his vision and that foundational, community-focused philosophy:

• Founder's Mission: George Mecherle believed that farmers and rural residents were being overcharged by insurance companies that included the high risks of city driving in their premiums.

If you are a customer this is a great read so you can see why GJ is a hero to the insurance industry and a winner in business even through the great depression.
