This was a great event. So happy to be a part of it! Can’t wait for the next one!
Let's take a minute on this cool autumn day and give a little more detail into what the Reality Check Assembly was for and why this was such a wonderful program to implement for our kids.
The reality check assembly was a program the Chamber of Commerce brought to ICHS. The students selected a career with a median income. They were provided checkbooks and randomly assigned a marital status and family size. The Chamber brought in several businesses that represent different aspects of monthly financial responsibilities (car, home, insurance, phone etc.) The students then had to see how far their monthly income would stretch. The Chamber is now in the process of totaling up the students performance. If they have money left at the end of their “month”, they will receive $5 of imlay cash (a gift certificate program that can be redeemed at over 20 member businesses) and if they went negative, they will still receive a prize. The entire program was designed to add some financial literacy education for our students utilizing real world expenses presented by real world businesses.
