As spring approaches, (Will it ever get here?) we would like to remind you of the
potential risks associated with spring runoff and flooding. While homeowner's insurance
policies provide coverage for many types of damage, it's important to note that flooding
caused by heavy rain, snow melt, and overflowing rivers, is generally not covered by
home insurance.
We want to ensure that you are aware of this limitation, as it's important to take
proactive steps to protect your home and personal property against the risk of flooding.
Here are some tips to help you reduce your flood risk:
1. Check if you live in a flood-prone area: You can use FEMA's flood maps to
determine if your property is in a flood zone. https://zurl.co/vCLJ

bags, sump pumps, and back-flow valves to prevent water from entering your
home. Also - elevate valuable items in the basement to higher ground.
3. Keep important documents safe: Store important documents and valuables in a
waterproof and fireproof safe.
4. Purchase flood insurance: If you live in a high-risk area, we strongly recommend
that you purchase additional flood insurance. There is typically a 30-60 day
waiting period before coverage starts.
By taking these steps, you can help protect your property. We hope this information is
helpful to you and that you take the necessary precautions to protect your home and
personal property.
