What is a retirement paycheck?

I define it as the amount of income you need each month to live a sustainable and fulfilling retirement.

To begin the retirement paycheck process, we like to help clients understand how much they want to spend in retirement and how that fits into their financial plan with their future income sources and investment portfolios.

We first calculate the amount of money the client wants to spend in retirement.

We then help the client understand their retirement paycheck. This includes their "lifetime" income sources such as pensions, social security etc., as well as the necessary amount of money they want to draw from their investment portfolios to meet the desired retirement income.

With this investment portfolio withdrawal rate information, we calculate what average annualized desired growth rate is needed in the portfolio (adjusted for taxes and inflation) to help the clients work toward their retirement income goals.

Retirement is such a unique chapter in life, because time usually becomes much more valuable than money.

We spend decades preparing for retirement, and then when we finally get there, many mindset shifts need to be made.

In retirement, it's so important to pursue things that give you a purpose and bring joy to your life.

Happy 2025! I hope everyone is excited for this new year of next chapters and goals ahead.

As I reflect on 2024, there are many life changes that have occurred. One of the biggest life changes was the passing of my amazing father, Robert Clausen.

My father passed away and went to heaven on September 4th, 2024. He was such a supportive father, an amazing best friend, and a great business partner and mentor.

My dad was such a family-focused man, and he loved investing in his friendships. He will be forever missed, but I thank God that as Christians, we have the eternal hope that we will see our loved ones again in heaven one day.

Although losing my father has been the hardest struggle in my life thus far, it is my mission to continue his amazing legacy of excellent client customer service at Desert Wealth Management.

My father had been in the financial services industry for over 40 years, and it was his passion to help clients work toward their life goals and dreams. He built Desert Wealth Management as a family-focused firm, helping clients support their families and live purpose-filled lives.

Myself, and our Desert Wealth Management team members, Wendy and Joyce, are committed to continue upholding the values that Desert Wealth Management was founded upon.

As I was my father's succession plan, I, along with my team, have spent the past four months working diligently to ensure a smooth transition into the next chapter of Desert Wealth Management.

Through comprehensive financial planning and investment management, our team at Desert Wealth Management remains committed to supporting and guiding our clients as they work toward their purpose and life goals.

Thank you so much to our friends, family, and clients for your support and encouragement during this time. As we enter into this new year, I look forward to continue supporting our clients as they work toward many milestones and goals this year.

I want to leave you with these pearls of wisdom from my father:
- Trust God with your life
- Live in the present
- Love and serve others
- Prioritize time with your family and friends

What an inspirational quote!

So many people can easily get caught up in how much income they make. Of course, it's important to work hard and grow in your career, but it's also important to develop a solid habit of saving your hard-earned money for your future self.

I encourage clients to focus on being a good steward of the money that they do have, regardless of how much they make.

What were your 2024 financial goals that you set at the beginning of this year? Are you on track to working toward these goals? What action steps do you want to implement to continue your progress for the next six months?

Here are some questions to consider asking yourself as you check in with your 2024 financial goals (if these align with your financial plan):

1. Do you have an emergency fund with 3-6 months of mandatory expenses saved?

2. Do you have a high-interest debt balance you want to pay off?

3. Do you regularly review your spending and saving habits? (every 2 - 4 weeks)

4. Have you been working toward maxing out your Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, or 401k for 2024? (if this aligns with your financial plan)

5. Have you been spending your fun money in ways that foster joy in your life?

We have 6 months left in 2024 to make progress on our goals. Let's make the next 6 months count!
