Serving as President and CEO for almost 30 years, R.A. Edwards led The First through decades that brought both economic challenges and significant progress in the financial space.

R.A. is pictured here at our ribbon cutting with a special newspaper spread from 1990 that was created to reassure customers during a period of economic uncertainty. While many people were concerned about the economy at the time, The First continued emphasizing financial stability, personal relationships and local decision making.

R.A. continues his dedication to The First today through his service on our Board of Directors. As we celebrate our 150th anniversary, we are reminded that strong community banks are built through generations of steady leadership and a continued commitment to the customers and communities we serve.

In September 1974, First National Center at Sherman and Main was opened with exciting additions, including more office space, a new parking garage and a motor bank at Avenue A, designed to better serve our growing community.

The celebration continued with the official Open House on December 1, welcoming more than 10,000 visitors through our doors.
