We are excited to announce our newest hire, Lawson Blake! Lawson has lived in the area his entire life, and he is looking forward to serving this community with us. He is an Employee Benefits Advisor with Black & Co. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and an MBA from Marshall University.

Lawson works with employers to understand their goals, evaluate benefit options, and develop strategies that support both their employees and their business. His relationship-focused approach helps make employee benefits clear, practical, and easier to understand.

Outside of work, Lawson enjoys fishing and spending time outdoors.

The Hurricane Harvest Festival 2026 was a blast! Michael his grandson, Lowell, enjoyed the festivities together. He especially enjoyed stirring apple butter with the outstanding City of Hurricane employees! Thank you all for putting this on! Thankful for the hospitable culture our community has created.

Michael stopped in to fellowship with the incredible volunteers at Meeks Mountain Trail Alliance's Hurricane 100K Trail Run & Relay! It was a great day in Hurricane. We love to see everyone enjoying West Virginia's naturally raw beauty.

This week David attended the West Virginia Primary Care Association - WVPCA "The Road Forward" Conference at Stonewall Resort. This conference had registrants and attendees from all 34 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) and RHC systems in WV.

David attended several sessions surrounding:

- Overviews in proposed legislation and passed legislation for 2027 regarding Medicaid and Medicare both at a state and federal level - specifically HR1 which puts new guidelines on Medicaid;
- Leading and Leading Change in organizations;
- Financial Strategies for health systems regarding budgeting, forecasting and investment;
- Federal updates regarding HRSA - the big news from this session was Mountain Laurel is no longer a "look alike FQHC" and is close to becoming a full FQHC, which means they are in the final steps of certification and accreditation as an FQHC, which will make them eligible for Federal healthcare grants (this is a really big deal);
- Driving innovation through various modalities;
- Value-Based Care and associated reimbursement models

Today we celebrated Advocacy in Motion moving to downtown Hurricane! This organization does case management with IDD Waiver and provides many other services. Their mission is to fill the gaps within programs by providing people with opportunities to gain services that meet their specific needs. More details about their services can be found at: https://www.aim-wv.com/ .
They serve not only Putnam County but also Cabell, Kanawha, Jackson and many more! They're located at 151 Dudding Avenue.
