Financial Fitness Friday:
Scammers are getting better at making messages look legitimate.

Whether it's a text about suspicious account activity, a phone call claiming to be from law enforcement, or an email asking you to verify information, most scams have one thing in common:

They want you to act before you think.

Before clicking a link, sharing personal information, or sending money, take a moment to verify the request through a trusted source.

A few extra minutes could save you from financial loss, identity theft, and countless headaches.

When it comes to protecting your finances, remember:

Stop. Verify. Then Act.

Financial Fitness Friday: The Jury Duty Scam That's Fooling People
Scammers are getting more sophisticated, and one scheme making the rounds involves fake calls claiming to be from a local sheriff's office or law enforcement agency. The caller may tell you that you missed jury duty, failed to appear in court, or have an active warrant. They often sound professional and may even provide badge numbers, case numbers, or details that make the situation seem legitimate.

Common red flags include:
• Demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest
• Asking for personal or financial information over the phone
• Instructing you not to discuss the matter with anyone
• Creating a sense of urgency or fear

Remember: Legitimate law enforcement agencies do not call and demand payment over the phone to avoid arrest. They also will not ask for your debit card information, online banking credentials, or payment through gift cards.

If you receive a call like this:
✓ Hang up immediately
✓ Do not provide personal information
✓ Contact the court or law enforcement agency directly using a verified phone number
✓ Report the scam if appropriate

Scammers rely on panic and urgency. Taking a moment to verify the situation can help protect your finances and personal information.

When in doubt, slow down and verify.

Financial Fitness Friday:
When fraud happens, the protection process can be very different.

💳 Credit Card
• Fraudulent charges generally don’t come directly from your bank account.
• You typically have time to dispute charges before payment is due.

🏦 Debit Card
• Money comes directly from your checking account.
• Reporting suspicious activity quickly is critical.
• Delays in reporting can increase your liability.

Make sure you monitor accounts for fraud and be active in your money management!

Financial Fitness Friday:
Holiday weekends can make it easy to lose track of your money.
Before the weekend starts, review:
• Your current balance
• Pending transactions
• Automatic payments
• Your available spending money
• Your card controls and alerts
Your account balance may not tell the full story if payments are still pending. Taking a few minutes to check everything can help you avoid overdrafts, declined transactions, or surprise stress next week.
