Mortgage Tips: Buying a Home After Divorce
Going through a divorce does not automatically mean you have to put your homeownership plans on hold.
Your lender may need to review:
• Your divorce decree or separation agreement • The mortgage on your previous home • Debts assigned to each person • Alimony or child support • Your new income and monthly budget
Depending on the loan program and your documentation, a debt assigned to your former spouse may not always have to count against you.
