For your kids and grandkids:

This is the value we offer at our firm, we care about your entire family. This is what I call the Tax Free Triple Play.

-Section 530A Account
-529 plan
-Roth IRA

Section 530A Account, a.k.a. Trump Account
Kids born between 1/1/2025 and 12/31/2028 are eligible for $1,000 of seed money from the government.
Any child under the age of 18 is eligible for the $5,000 annual contribution. You cannot contribute in the year the child turns 18. Contributions are not tax deductible for the donor.

Step One: Section 530A Account
Open a 530A account at trumpaccounts.gov.
Max out each year. Current amount is $5,000 per year and it’s set to index to inflation in 2028.
If you do this and your child is eligible for the seed money, a fully maxed out Trump Account would have close to $191,000 by age 18, with an assumed 8% rate of return.
At age 18, the account becomes an IRA. At that point, consider a Roth conversion while in a low tax bracket. This conversion could take place over a few years to ensure a low tax bracket.
The original deposit amounts of $5,000 per year will not be taxed during the conversion, roughly $90,000.
Note: Taxes will need to be paid from an outside source.

Step 2: 529 Plan
When your child is born, open a 529 plan.
Seed it with $5,000.
Contribute $300 per month for the next 17 years.
Assuming an 8% rate of return, the balance in the 529 plan will be roughly $140,000.
At the age of 18, your child, the beneficiary of the 529, can Roth convert with no tax $35,000 of the 529.
That leaves about $105,000 to help pay for college. If you want more, put more in the 529.
Note: You can only Roth convert up to the contribution amount for each year totaling $35,000. For example, the contribution amount for someone under age 50 in 2026 is $7,500. Therefore, you could only convert $7,500 this year, and up to the contribution amount in subsequent years, taking around 5 years to complete. Max total conversion amount can only be $35,000.
Note: If you live in a state like AL, the person making the 529 plan contribution receives a state tax deduction. See your specific state for tax law eligibility.

Step 3: Roth IRA
When the child is eligible to work, open a Custodial Roth IRA.
If they start working at the age of 15, they can make a $7,500 contribution to a Roth IRA as long as they have at least $7,500 in earned income, job income.
Note: To make a Roth IRA contribution, you need earned income. The age doesn’t matter as long as the income is earned income.
Assumptions at age 25 with an 8% rate of return:

Trump Account conversion of $191,000 to Roth and held until age 25:
~$327,340

529 plan Roth conversions over a 5-year period and held until age 25:
~$52,277

Roth IRA contributions maxed out from 15 y/o to age 25:
~$108,649

Potential Tax-Free Roth money for your grandkid by age 25:

~$488,267

Age 50 with no further contributions:

~$3,343,885

Parents and grandparents, look at stacking these together so you don’t miss an opportunity to set your grandkids, or kids, up for future success with a few dollars and the power of compounding.

(Numbers are estimates based on a few assumptions noted above. The key point here is time and compounding, while stacking these three together.)
