๐ฒ๐ฝMexico has two major days of celebration: May 5th -- el Cinco de Mayo -- and September 16th -- el Dรญa de la Independencia. El Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire ๐ซ๐ท at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. After nearly four years of conflict with the French, Napoleon III in January of 1866 finally withdrew all French troops from Mexico.
Somehow, this celebration became larger in the United States than in Mexico, becoming a general day of celebration of Mexican culture. I'm proud of my heritage, and I'm proud to celebrate that heritage with others as a United States citizen. And yes, Mexicans really do party hard -- much harder than you can handle ๐.
Remember the sacrifices made by Mexican people in Mexico to preserve their nation. Remember the sacrifices made by many Mexicans to start new lives here in a Land of Opportunity. Above all, please remember to celebrate responsibly! ๐
