finding a needle in a haystack. There are so many commercials and mailers that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. One of the biggest secrets to making a good choice is knowing who is helping you.
In the insurance world, there are two main types of people who sell Medicare Advantage plans: Captive Agents and Independent Agents. Understanding the difference can save you a lot of money and stress.
What is a Captive Agent?
Think of a captive agent like a salesman at a specific car dealership. If you go to a Ford dealership, the salesman will only tell you why a Ford is the best car for you. He can’t sell you a Honda or a Toyota, even if those cars are better for your needs.
A captive agent works for only one insurance company. They know their company’s plans very well, but they can’t show you what else is out there. If another company has a better price or better dental benefits, they aren’t allowed to tell you about it.
What is an Independent Agent?
An independent agent is like a personal shopper. They don’t work for just one insurance company; they work for you. At Welch Insurance, we are independent. This means we have the “keys” to major insurance companies in Orange County.
