Most people assume you send your down payment or loan funds directly to the lender — but that’s not how it works. All money goes into escrow managed by the title company, which holds the funds until closing. When you pay closing costs or loan fees, you wire or deliver funds to that escrow account — not to the lender directly.
Wire fraud is real, and scammers often pretend to be your title company or lender with fake wiring instructions. Always call your title company or settlement agent using a verified phone numberbefore wiring any money, and never trust wiring instructions sent only by email.
