He’s a natural! After one week of working with Your CFO Friend, our new Junior Marketing & Content Assistant created his first reel! 👏🏾

He watched YouTube videos, had a little instruction from the “Boss” and he created this masterpiece to capture his first week. Show him some love and encouragement (he’s on IG now) because he’ll see it.

Until next week…

This is Sunny’s first Canva creation and I think it turned out amazing 🤩 . He’s been killing it this week and I can’t wait to post a recap video (edited by him) soon! I’ll also post my own reflection of our first week together soon…

… in the meantime, just remember that saving money is never about the money - it’s about building something that will sustain you, nurture you, and comfort you when you need it!

“When am I ever going to use this?” she thought to herself in algebra class.

Turns out, the answer was: constantly. Just not in the way they taught us.

Algebra teaches you how to look at a problem, break it into parts, and solve for the unknown. We actually use that every single day.

When you figure out if you can afford the trip. When you stretch a budget across a month that’s longer than the paycheck. When you sit in a board meeting trying to make the numbers make sense.

That’s accounting. That’s finance. You’ve probably been doing it all along — nobody just stopped to name it for you or cheer you on.

That’s what I’m here for.

Wednesday’s newsletter breaks down the three numbers every accidental CFO should know — whether you run a nonprofit, a business, or just your household. Simple math you already have the instincts for.

A little more context behind Sunny joining the team this summer ☀️

When I first made the offer… he turned it down 😅

Not because he didn’t want to work, but because he had questions about pay, hours, responsibilities, and still being able to enjoy his summer.

Honestly, I respected it.

This became about more than just a summer job — it turned into real conversations about money, responsibility, communication, and knowing your value.

Proud of him already 💛

He’s 14. ☀️

Meet my son, Sunny.

Musician. Football player. Creative spirit. Future entrepreneur.

He’s been asking for a summer job for months, but at 14, finding someone willing to hire him hasn’t been easy.

So this summer, I decided to hire him myself. 💫

As part of the Goldman Sachs Black in Business program, one of our goals is to grow our team. I originally thought I’d start with a virtual assistant, but sometimes the right person is already in your house. 🥹

Sunny is officially joining Your CFO Friend as our Junior Marketing & Content Assistant!

He’ll be helping with:
✨ Social media content
✨ Video editing
✨ Research
✨ Light admin support

More than anything, I’m excited for him to gain real-world experience, confidence, and skills he can carry into adulthood.

And honestly… I’m excited to have the help too 😂

Send us love as we learn how to balance being mother and son while also becoming coworkers this summer. 🫶🏾

Have you ever wanted to quit on the spot?

No notice. No plan. Just walk out.

I have.

This week’s newsletter is the most vulnerable thing I’ve written. I’m sharing exactly what I did in that moment, and the one number that talked me off the ledge.

You stepped into leadership to drive the mission… not to manage the finances.

But now you’re the one responsible for the numbers.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re figuring it out as you go — you’re not alone.

The **𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐅𝐎 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞** is a space for leaders navigating the financial side of their role without a formal background — so you can get clarity, ask questions, and lead with confidence.

Yesterday I led a scholar session with my cohort in the Goldman Sachs Black in Business program—and it reminded me why I love what I do.

We’re in Module 3 focused on financial statements, working through a 3-month P&L. I’ve built countless P&Ls, but this time I used it as a moment to tighten up my own business finances.

When my advisor asked me to host a working session, I showed up tired and unsure. But somewhere in that hour—with six of us digging into the numbers—I found a different kind of energy.

The conversation was real, the engagement was high, and somehow… we all enjoyed an hour on financial statements.

It reaffirmed something important: teaching isn’t separate from my work—it’s how I do my work. It’s how I create clarity, strengthen operators, and elevate financial leadership.

Not LinkedIn.

They were looking for someone with experience working with school district contracts, someone they could trust to provide clear financial information for decision-making, and someone who could support both bookkeeping and fractional CFO needs.

And Your CFO Friend came up.

That got me thinking.

ChatGPT doesn’t recommend people randomly. It pulls from what’s clear, consistent, and aligned with what someone is actually searching for.

In this case, it wasn’t about having the most content. It was about having the right message.

Most organizations don’t need more financial reports. They need someone who can connect the dots between the numbers, their contracts, and the decisions they need to make. That’s what they found on my website.

If your work isn’t translating, it’s not landing.

Curious… how are people finding you lately?
