Firewood piles can easily ignite from wildfire embers, and once burning, they can spread flames directly to your home.

Store firewood at least 30 feet from any buildings to reduce the risk. Small changes can make a big difference in wildfire safety.

As we approach the beginning of August and National Stop on Red Week, the Texas Department of Public Safety reminds all motorists that stopping at a red light isn’t just the law—it’s one of the simplest ways to prevent serious crashes and save lives.

Red-light violations can have devastating consequences for drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Taking just a few extra seconds to stop can make all the difference.

Here are a few reminders to help keep everyone safe:
🚗 Slow down as you approach intersections and be prepared to stop.
🚦 Never try to “beat the light” as it changes from yellow to red.
👀 Look both ways before proceeding when the light turns green—another driver may not have stopped.
🚶 Always watch for pedestrians and cyclists in crosswalks before turning.
📵 Eliminate distractions and stay focused on the road, especially at busy intersections.
