Here's how it typically works: if you've received overtime or bonus income consistently over the past two years, lenders can often include it in your qualifying income. That number can significantly increase what you're approved for ā€” sometimes the difference between the home you want and the home you're settling for.

This is especially relevant for first responders, nurses, tradespeople, and anyone in a field where overtime is common.

Most people don't think to mention their overtime when they apply. I always ask.
