Planning for College? The 2027â2028 FAFSA Window is Approaching
For families with students entering or continuing college during the 2027â2028 academic year, proactive planning is key to maximizing financial aid opportunities.
The 2027â2028 FAFSA opens on October 1, 2026. To ensure a smooth application process, we recommend completing these foundational steps early:
Create or verify your StudentAid.gov account: Both the student and required contributors (parents/guardians) will need an active FSA ID.
Gather financial records: Keep your 2025 tax returns, W-2s, and income documentation accessible (FAFSA uses the "prior-prior year" tax data).
Identify key contributors: Determine which parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must provide financial information based on federal guidelines.
Track priority deadlines: Institutional, state, and scholarship aid is frequently awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Early submission secures maximum eligibility.
While the federal deadline extends through June 30, 2028, individual college and state priority dates arrive much sooner.
As part of our Family CFO approach, we help families seamlessly integrate higher education funding into their long-term wealth strategy. Reach out to our team if you have questions on cash flow management, 529 planning, or navigating financial aid requirements.
