I always find it ironic when a business owner wants an accountant who is bad at math.
If the "last guy" couldn't calculate his own prices well enough to stay in business, how exactly is he going to help you run yours?
Read that text again. It’s the shortest business lesson you’ll ever learn.
As a CPA based in Texas and serving clients all the way to Tennessee, I stopped trying to compete on price a long time ago. Now, I compete on partnership. When I’m looking to take on a new client, I don’t look for the biggest budget. I look for these three things:
1️⃣ Value Alignment: Do they see accounting as a commodity to be bought cheap, or an asset to help them grow?
2️⃣ Responsiveness: Are they ready to communicate and do the work with me?
3️⃣ Longevity: Are they looking for a quick fix for this tax season, or a strategy for the next ten?
If you want the guy who does it for $1,850, keep searching. Just don't be surprised when he’s not answering the phone next year.
