Doom Loop or Suburban Boom? The CRE market is certainly under pressure, some sectors more than others, but it is certainly not spelling disaster.

The CRE capital markets are feeling the heat due to elevated interest rates. These rates are affecting CRE property values and causing many loans to come due in the coming years, requiring refinancing at higher rates. Borrowers are also facing stricter credit standards.

The spotlight is on the office market, especially for loans coming due on office properties. But here's the twist: suburban office properties are showing remarkable resilience despite the challenges in the central business district office market. The effective rent for non-CBD office spaces is growing at a higher rate than CBD office spaces.
