Here are a few steps that you can take to help keep your family safe and warm, especially if you rely on natural gas to heat your home.
Safety First
• If using a space heater, use one with an automatic shut-off
safety feature.
o Keep everything at least 3 feet away from the space heater.
o Never allow children or pets near the space heater.
• Make sure your heating system is working effectively.
o Clean or change out your filters for safe and more efficient
operation.
• Test/Check your carbon monoxide (CO) and smoke alarms and
replace the batteries as recommended by the manufacturer.
• Report a suspected natural gas leak by calling 911.
o Immediately leave on foot and move to a safe location before
calling.
Energy Efficiency
With the cold weather upon us, you will experience an increase in usage. Please see the following tips to heat your home more efficiently and save you money.
• Lower your thermostat to 68º, but beware of lowering it
further to ensure that water pipes do not freeze.
• Look for drafts around doors, windows, and other openings
such as pipes or ducts. Seal those leaks with caulk or weather-
stripping.
