On the freezing topic... Preparing your pool.
#1 your pool should be on and running anytime the temperature is at or below 34 degrees. Some pools have auto features that the system will run "antifreeze". Others have manual time systems you will have to remove the on/off pins or set to service mode and turn all equipment on (filter pump, waterfalls, booster/cleaner pumps, etc.) heaters do not need to be on, but can run. Leave the blower for the spa OFF as it is air only. Please ensure you are keeping an eye on your equipment and it continues to run during this period.
In the event the power goes out or there is an issue with your system it cannot run, please see helpful tips to "prevent" pipes and other things from bursting.
1. TURN ALL POOL AND SPA EQUIPMENT OFF AND TURN OFF THE BREAKERS TO ALL POOL AND SPA EQUIPMENT. MAKE SURE THERE IS NO POWER TO THE POOL/SPA EQUIPMENT.
2. OPEN UP THE AIR RELIEF VALVE ON YOUR FILTER (Allow a couple of minutes for all of the water to drain out of the filter and back into the pool before proceeding to next step.)
3. REMOVE ALL PUMP LIDS.
4. PULL OUT ALL OF THE DRAIN PLUGS ON ALL EQUIPMENT, FILTERS, PUMPS, BOOSTER PUMPS, WATER FEATURE PUMPS, HEATER, ETC ****NOTE: ALL PUMPS HAVE 2 DRAIN PLUGS, BOTH NEED TO BE REMOVED.
5. FILTER DRAIN PLUGS ARE USUALLY LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FILTER (NOT UNDERNEATH, BUT AT THE BOTTOM.)
6. IF YOU HAVE ACTUATORS, YOU NEED TO TURN THEM TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL PIPES ARE OPEN SO THAT THE WATER CAN DRAIN OUT. ANOTHER OPTION WOULD BE TO REMOVE THE ACTUATORS COMPLETELY (BY REMOVING THE 4 MOUNTING SCREWS) THEN REMOVE THE HANDLE OFF OF THE ACTUATORS AND USE IT TO MOVE THE VALVE MANUALLY.
7. FOR THOSE WHO HAVE WATER-FILL VALVES, REMEMBER THAT THIS IS AN EXTENSION TO THE WATER SUPPLY AND TO YOUR HOME AND THESE PIPES NEED TO BE PROTECTED FROM EXPOSURE JUST LIKE ALL OF THE OTHER PIPES TO YOUR HOME.
**IF YOU NEED INFORMATION ON YOUR SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT, PLEASE REFER TO YOUR OWNER’S MANUAL. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ANSWER SPECIFICS ON EACH INDIVIDUAL’S EQUPMENT.
***IMPORTANT – AFTER THE FREEZE EVENT IS OVER AND YOU ARE READY TO GET YOUR EQUIPMENT BACK UP AND RUNNING, REVERSE ALL OF THE ABOVE, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BREAKERS REMAIN OFF UNTIL EVERYTHING HAS BEEN REINSTATED. WE WILL BE AVAILABLE BEFORE AND AFTER THE FREEZE TO PUT EQUIPMENT INTO WORKING POSITION, BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT WE WILL BE INUNDATED WITH CALLS AND OUR SCHEDULE WILL MOST LIKELY BE FILLED QUICKLY.
***Note – These are preventative steps, but we can in no way guarantee that this will completely eliminate the possibility of your equipment freezing and your pipes bursting.
**The main desired goal it to make sure all of the water is drained from all of the pipes and equipment!
