Selecting Health insurance when you’re self employed doesn’t usually feel good
In fact, It feels bad

Nerve wracking
Confusing
Annoying

But the thing is…that’s not actually because it’s all objectively bad

9 times out of 10 it’s because you’re out of your element

You’re doing it on your own with a baseline understanding of what you’re doing - at best

I know that’s not all of you, but after hundreds of conversations with soloprenuers and other business owners, I know it’s true

—> I also know how my clients feel after working with me:

“…Saved me a boatload on my monthly premium, was extremely patient and consultative…you cannot go wrong with him”

“What stands out the most about Mitch is that he is a true consultant. I have never once felt like he was trying to sell me a product; instead, he has helped me select the options that best fit my needs and circumstances”

“…worked with me every step of the way to get me and my children the insurance plan we needed…so I can eliminate that cognitive load to focus on other things”

These are either direct quotes or paraphrased from reviews on my page

Some themes that reoccur here and in other reviews:

1. Results
2. Consultative, not salesy
3. Relief, confidence, security

In a nutshell - the opposite of what you feel when you do this on your own.

And while the actual problems that I solve matter in terms the details(high premiums, limited networks, how to plan when you’re self employed or losing coverage, yadda yadda)

That’s arguably not the biggest difference between DIYing it vs working with me

It’s how you’ll feel afterwards

If you just got laid off
COBRA could cost you big
In excess of $2,000 a month big

If you’re wondering what to do about this, listen up -

Last year I worked with a family of four who had been on COBRA after a job change.

They were paying $2,000 a month to keep their employer-sponsored health coverage

A premium they’d been paying for nine months

—> Unaware there were other options on the table that entire time.

They were healthy.
No ongoing treatments.
Just sticking with what they knew.

When we connected, we ran the numbers, reviewed their needs, and made a switch to a private PPO health plan with dental, and vision....for just under $1,200 a month.

Same peace of mind.
$800 a month in savings.

They paid $7,200 more than they needed to in 2025 alone and not because they had to, but because they didn’t know there were alternatives.

And to be clear, I’m not saying COBRA is always the wrong move. It has its place, and sometimes it’s the right call.

But too often,

People take it out of convenience.
Because it’s familiar.
Because it’s easy to just keep paying.

That decision could needlessly cost you thousands of dollars.

Especially if…

You're healthy,
Not in the middle of treatment
Not taking many medications, if any
And want to be sure you’re making the most of your options

It’s 100% worth having this conversation.

The worst thing you can do is assume it’s COBRA or nothing

Biggest win of 2026 thus far? Saving a single Mother $478/Month in Premiums.

That’s $5,736 a year in Healthcare costs

But… that’s actually not the best part to me

That would be the fact that it was her daughter that referred me, who is already a client

I had helped her and her husband a couple years prior with finding affordable PPO coverage

So when she overheard her Mom talking about how expensive her health insurance plan was, she knew who to recommend: Me

But, not just because I had saved her money…

But because I’ve also answered my phone over the last couple years when she’s reached out with questions or needed to make any changes

(Which is, unfortunately, not at all a given in my industry)

She recommended me to her own mother because I’ve been there for her

I’ve proven that I’m dependable

And that’s at the core of what makes this the biggest win so far this year to me

The trust, not the money saved

You woke up without a job... not because you lost it, but because you bet on yourself.

You open your eyes.

6:00 AM.

For a split second, your body expects the old routine. The alarm. The rush. The commute. The meetings.

But then you remember…

You don’t have to be anywhere.

No boss. No clock-in time. No one watching.

You lie there for a minute longer than usual. Freedom feels good.

And then it hits you.

Your paycheck isn’t guaranteed anymore either.

No direct deposit every two weeks. No HR department. No employer-sponsored health plan quietly covering you in the background.

That coverage? It ends at the end of the month.

And now it’s on you.

This is the part no one talks about when you go self-employed.

You prepare for revenue swings. You prepare to sell. You prepare to market yourself.

But most people don’t prepare for navigating health insurance alone.

You quickly realize:

→ The plan you had through work was heavily subsidized
→ The marketplace premiums are higher than you expected
→ The networks look… different
→ And suddenly you’re responsible for protecting your income, your health, and your family

This is where excitement can quietly turn into stress.

And many people come to me this way, worried and unsure of what's next when it comes to health coverage, almost second guessing if they put the cart before the horse.

HMO? PPO? EPO?
Premium Tax Credits?
Projected household income? Based on what?

So many of these questions and more flood your brain the moment you actually start to look and to be frank, it is absolutely overwhelming.

But I don't believe that being self employed should mean settling for confusing, overpriced coverage or crossing your fingers and hoping nothing happens.

It just means the strategy changes.

And that’s where I come in.

You bet on yourself.

Now let’s make sure you’re protected like someone who did.

Send a DM if you're tired of dealing with this monkey business alone and just want good, affordable coverage that you can actually understand for once.

These are the phrases I hear most often from self-employed folks who are frustrated with their health insurance:

→ “I just picked the cheapest plan I could find.”
→ “I thought ACA was the only option.”
→ “I’ll just deal with it during Open Enrollment.”
→ “I figured they all kind of work the same.”

And look, I get it. When you’re running your own business, staying focused on that takes priority.

Health insurance feels like something you just need to get done. Yet, it often ends up on the back burner and becomes a last minute decision or one that isn't given enough thought.

But these shortcuts often lead to more stress and disappointment down the road, especially now.

So, lets break down the issue with each of these statements:

“I just picked the cheapest plan I could find.”

Cheapest usually = highest risk. Plans with low premiums often come with limited networks(and benefits), high deductibles, and way more out‑of‑pocket cost than people realize. You’re not truly covered until you fork over a ton of money or worse, can actually use your plan - if no one accepts it, what good is it?

“I’ll just deal with it during Open Enrollment.”

This mindset often leaves people overpaying for bad coverage a lot longer than they need to. While the ACA options are only available during open enrollment, private coverage is available year round and could be a much better fit if you're a healthy, high income family. You can switch from an ACA plan to private anytime during the year.

“I figured they all kind of work the same.”

Not so fast. If we're talking ACA plans, while it is true that many plan options are limited networks with high deductibles, there is a lot to be said about the finer points as well. For instance, one ACA plan might have a copay for an office visit, another might require you to pay 100% out of pocket until you hit your deductible - that's a big difference right there.

Whereas, private plans(Not ACA), have pre existing condition limitations you might not be aware of when you sign up, leading to a nasty surprise down the road.

How do you know what's the right fit for you? Speak with a professional.

“I thought ACA was the only option.”

There are private PPO plans designed specifically for healthy individuals and families who don’t qualify for subsidies.

Plans with broader networks.
Lower out-of-pocket maxes.
Lower premiums
And often, more stable rates year over year, because you’re not lumped into a high-risk pool.

That’s where I come in.

I work with self-employed professionals - consultants, contractors, realtors, and small business owners to help them not just find a plan, but optimize it.

No 1-800 numbers. No guessing. Just clarity and support.

If you've found yourself uttering one of these phrases before but haven't ever actually reached out for help, now is the time
