➡️PROPERTY TAX UPDATE⬅️

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dade Phelan announce property tax relief deal.

As reported in the Spectrum News:

-Over 12 billion will be spent on reducing the school property tax rate for all homeowners and business properties.

-Every homeowner who homesteads their home (approximately 5.7 million homeowners) will get a $100,000 homestead exemption.

-Non-homestead properties, valued at $5 million and under, including residential and commercial properties, will receive a 20% circuit breaker on appraised values as a 3-year pilot project.

-Legislation will also include savings on the franchise tax for small businesses and create newly elected positions on local appraisal boards.

From Dan Patrick “I’m very pleased. We wanted a $100,000 homestead exemption for all 5.7 million homeowners who homestead their property. That will give them about a 41% cut in their school taxes beginning this year once they approve it in November. It means about a $1250 to $1450 tax savings every year to them with that homestead exemption, and that will be permanent for the life of their home as long as they homestead it.”

Our hearts are with the family of Michael Richmond as we celebrate his life. Mr. Richmond served with The Woodlands Operating Company, L.P. for 30 years. He was named President and Chief Operating Officer of the company in November 1997, remaining in this position until his retirement in September 2002. At his retirement, Michael was honored with a special "Hometown Hero" lifetime achievement commendation for his dedication to the community.

Michael was involved in key projects like the planning and development of The Woodlands Waterway; the creation of the Town Center Improvement District, now The Woodlands Town Center; The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center; The Woodlands Mall and numerous other developments. He also sold the first homesite in The Woodlands. He himself had been a resident of the community with his family since the inception of The Woodlands in 1974.

Our thoughts are with his family, and to all those fortunate to have worked with him in the establishment of this amazing hometown.
