Due to rising interest rates and asset volatility, many Americans are looking for alternative and stable investments outside of the stock market. With that in mind, this month's Hotaling Hot Topic features a unique insurance strategy that we call, "Be Your Own Bank."
How does this concept work?
The "Be Your Own Bank" concept allows policy owners to put their money to work inside a life insurance contract rather than letting it sit in a bank to earn very little interest.
By depositing a large sum of money into a Premium Deposit Account (PDA) inside a Whole Life insurance vehicle, the policy owner can obtain a guaranteed, tax-free Rate of Return (ROR) while having access to the cash via a line of credit whenever the funds are needed. Essentially, the PDA mimics a checking account with a greater rate of return and over 5-7 years, the funds are evenly distributed into the Whole Life contract while the PDA accrues interest of about 3-4% (carrier pending) on the remaining balance.
In addition, the strategy gives the policy owner the power to "be their own bank" and access a line of credit at 90%-95% loan-to-value (LTV).
What are the benefits?
After the initial contribution, the combination of the Cash Value and the PDA (generally about 90-96% of your contribution - pending age and health) will create liquidity inside a conservative life insurance contract. With complete financial freedom, the policy owner can then reinvest in other income-producing opportunities, such as real estate, hard money loans, and business inventory/expansion, by using the income to pay the tax-deductible interest on the line of credit while the insurance values grow TAX-FREE.
Who is an ideal client?
This program is ideal for individuals under the age of 60, in good health, with high cash positions looking to deploy ($50,000- $10,000,000) into income-producing investments.
