In November 1984, the Houma Daily Courier documented the United Houma Nation’s fight for federal recognition alongside photographs of our people carrying on their traditions.

More than four decades later, that fight continues. Generations have worked to secure recognition while preserving our culture and creating opportunities for those who follow.
