Thank God for people like Father Antonio advocating for our locals!

“He helped so many people on this bayou.”

After Hurricane Ida devastated parts of Terrebonne Parish, one local priest stepped up to help families who had nowhere else to turn. His efforts have helped hundreds of families rebuild their homes — and find hope along the way.

Hundreds of multi-million dollar vessels sitting unused across across Louisiana's coastal communities. Closed down seafood docks and ice houses rotting away.
I've sat on the back deck of my shrimp boat at night and you can literally hear building parts falling to the ground in the silence of the night. Where you used to hear ice factories humming and the ice falling, where the sounds of forklifts, conveyor belts use to echo down the bayou there is only silence. The type of silence that brings tears to your eyes after an entire life built on what you caught as a shrimp fisherman has wilted away. The fishing community's along Louisiana's bayou's use to be as vibrant as today's city streets are, where everyone was busy, vessel engines running, and fisherman talking anytime of day or night, any time of the year.
The government has allowed foreign imported shrimp to nearly choke out a multi-billion dollar shrimp fisheries industry. I say nearly because there are still a few of us that are doing everything we can to hang on and hold our heads above water.
We all know it will never be what it once was but if the American people across America will stop purchasing imported shrimp and seafood, it may save what is left of the Louisiana seafood industry. The government on the state and federal level will not stop the imported shrimp, its providing easy money to slide down satin laced pockets of many. Only the American People can save what little bit we have left.

I've answered a few comments over the past hours on this page, one that stands out, "Isn't sh*****ng a part-time job and a hobby"? No, its people's full-time time job, where generations upon generations of people's lives have been founded upon and built, its an industry that people have invested everything in, its an industry that has the backbone of iron. Sadly our backbone has fragily weakened under the rust of imported shrimp that the government has allowed to steadily flow in American stores, restaurants, and markets.

Multi-billion dollar industry collapsing before our eyes and I guess it's ok?
No, I'm not ok 😔.

Prayer for our Commercial Fishermen :

May God watch out for our commercial fisherman this August shrimp season. May the boat captains and crews be blessed with good health and fair prices. May He watch over the fishermen’s children and their families on land. May they all work together in fairness and harmony. May He bless the catch and all those that derive nourishment from the bounties of our beautiful bayous. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
