Dear friends, family members and loyal customers:
As a lifelong resident of Wisconsin and local business owner since 1994, I am reaching out to all of you regarding an unfortunate situation with one of our local businesses Cellcom.
This past Wednesday evening, May 14th, Cellcom’s service was interrupted. Most text messaging was able to get through but voice services have been down. At this time Cellcom is still trying diligently to correct the problem and get their services back to 100%.
As of yesterday, May 19th, Cellcom to Cellcom voice services were back up and running. If word did not get out to you, if you are a Cellcom customer, you need to power off and restart your phone to get the services to work again. Cellcom is continuing to work to get their services back to 100%.
Over the past several days, I have seen several social media posts and heard complaints of people complaining and talking about leaving Cellcom. For those who have had services other than Cellcom in the past, I’d like to remind you why you switched to Cellcom in the first place – Here is my story:
When I first moved to Sister Bay Wisconsin in 1992 I was having troubles with my Sprint Cellular coverage as back then cellular was not yet digital and towers were few and far between. A friend and local business owner connected me with the local Cellcom agent who switched my services to Cellcom and installed an antenna on my van for my bag phone out of his garage in Sister Bay.
Through bag phones, flip phones, slide phones, android phones, my first Blackberry phone and then onto my first i-phone, Cellcom has always been there for me and my businesses.
I remember the first time I received a call from Cellcom telling me that they had reviewed my account and recommended that I change my plan and in doing so could save over $100/month in service fees. I was incredulous, I asked the representative why they would call me to cost their business money. The response was that they were a local business and appreciated my business and wanted to do what was best for me.
To this day, I remember that call from 28 years ago and use it as part of my business model today. Reviewing clients’ accounts and fitting them with a better plan if available based on their needs is something we do every day. In part, I owe a good part of my success to Cellcom.
Through moves from Sister Bay to Sheboygan Falls to Appleton, Green Bay and Dale, Wisconsin, Cellcom has always been there for me. They have worked with me hand in hand to find solutions to any issue that has arisen. As Cellular technology has improved, Cellcom has kept up and exceeded. Sure, the big guys come out with everything first but Cellcom has never been far behind. Out in the country where we now are, there is no company that has perfect service but my Cellcom Agent has helped me come up with solutions to help me and my business. One solution they came up with was a Cellular Booster Antenna that goes on the roof of my home to bring in a stronger signal – an option that no other company recommended when I thought maybe it was time to switch when we moved to Dale.
At times, I have been tempted to chase better deals through national carriers but have found that Cellcom often soon has the same deals that the national carriers have but only a couple of months later. Years ago, when considering switching, I remembered that phone call from Cellcom asking me, a current client if I would like to switch plans with them to save money and I thought of all the times before Cellcom that I tried to fix a problem with the national carriers and could never get a direct answer or solution to my issue. Today, as in 1992, I can still call Cellcom and talk to a local agent who will take care of any problem that I have.
My current business representative comes to my office and recommends new products and services to keep my business performing and is only a phone call or email away from a response. If he does not have an answer, he works diligently with his Cellcom team to find a solution.
Throughout the current outage, he has kept me informed on what has been going on and called me with regular updates as they have become available. I would not have received that type of service from any other carrier.
Cellcom, as a local business, supports many local community activities and causes giving back in many ways to all of our local communities. One that is near and dear to my heart as a past president and current board member of the Greenville Lions, is the support that they give annually to our Summer Catfish Concert in Greenville. I’m sure that you have attended many local events that Cellcom has supported – do you see the national carriers doing that?
I will continue to support Cellcom as a local resident and businessperson and this great service is why I support and recommend the other local businesses that I use. From Cellcom to my IT Team, Web Design Company and the many others that are too numerous to name that help make my life easier and my business successful, I urge you to all to support these local businesses and not jump ship because of a small hiccup that you can find ways to navigate through until a solution is found.
