While boat insurance is not required in New York State, protecting your watercraft investment - as well as you & your assets if you are liable for an accident on the water - is still important for boaters to consider.
Boating information for New York State:
1. Anyone operating a motorized boat in New York must complete a state approved boating course.
2. Boaters using a motor (electric or fuel-driven) must register their boat with the New York State DMV.
3. Every PWC, including canoes, kayaks, and rowboats, operating on New York State waters must have on board one USCG-approved wearable Personal Flotation Device for each person on the boat.
