Mortgage applications fell 0.8% for the week ending April 3, the fourth straight weekly decline, as rates climbed to 6.46%, the fifth consecutive weekly increase, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Purchase applications edged up 1% week over week but were 7% lower than a year ago. Refinance applications fell 3% and were 4% below year-ago levels.
