Has FED Hit 2% Inflation Target?

The October PCE (Personal Consumption Expenditures) inflation reading excluding food and energy was revised lower from 2.3% to 2.0% year over year. On Friday we will get the November year over year as well as headline inflation which is expected to decline from 3% to 2.8%. This report will be a significant indicator of the direction of mortgage rates. The markets are currently expecting the FED to cut rates at their March 20, 2024 meeting.

Rates are falling today after a cooler than expected Producer Price Index inflation report. The FED Chair Jerome Powell attempted to game the markets by tempering his outlook for future rate reductions but the markets rallied instead driving rates lower. Buyers can obtain interest rates today for several thousand dollars less then was possible last week. It obvious to observers that the trend for interest rates is lower.
