JH Berry Risk Services Using a comprehensive, consultative approach, we are a firm committed to helping you understand, con We are here for you when questions or claims arise.

Using a comprehensive, consultative approach, we are a firm committed to helping you understand, control, and in many cases transfer the risks your family and/or company, large or small, faces each day. Because we are dedicated to forming quality, lasting relationships with those we serve, we dedicate time and resources to designing a custom risk management program tailored to your needs. We have a team in place to consult with you early on to assess your objectives and issues, understand your historical performance and history, thoroughly consider ways to improve, and finally work to market and implement ways to keep total risk costs down. However, the process does not end for our team with the placement of insurance. Should you experience a claim event, we don’t want you to face that difficult situation alone. Loss control and claims management programs and teams are in place to protect your assets and give you peace of mind. We make a promise to protect.

'Tis the season for a coverage check. Holiday parties, catering orders, and seasonal hires can change how your business operates for a few busy weeks. Your insurance should keep up.

Before the season starts, review:
- Events: If you're hosting a party or serving alcohol, do you know how your liability coverage applies?
- Catering and off-site work: Taking on more orders or delivering to new places can bring new exposures.
- Seasonal staff: Make sure temporary and part-time employees are accounted for in your workers' compensation program.

A quick conversation now can help you head into the holidays with confidence. Talk with a JH Berry risk advisor: https://www.jhbrisk.com/contact

Non-profit leaders wear a lot of hats, and risk manager usually isn't the one anyone signed up for. But board members, staff, and volunteers all carry exposures that are easy to overlook until something goes wrong.

We put together five questions every non-profit board should be asking about its insurance and risk management program:
- Are our directors and officers personally protected?
- What happens if a volunteer is injured while serving?
- Are our fundraising events and off-site activities covered?
- How are we protecting donor and client data?
- Does our coverage still match how our organization operates today?

If your board hasn't talked through these recently, this is a great place to start. Read our full non-profit risk guide. Link in bio.

Running a restaurant means managing a lot at once: a commercial kitchen, a busy team, guests, and the systems that keep orders and payments moving. Each one carries its own risks.

Equipment breakdowns, kitchen injuries, foodborne illness, liquor liability, and cyber threats can all affect your business. Your coverage should reflect how your restaurant actually runs.

Our latest guide covers the most common risks restaurant owners face, plus 10 coverage considerations worth reviewing.

Fire Prevention Week starts next week — a good reason to do a quick walkthrough of your building before it does.

A few things worth checking: that exits and walkways are clear, that storage isn't blocking sprinkler heads or electrical panels, and that your alarm and sprinkler systems have been tested recently.

Small fixes now can prevent bigger problems — and bigger claims — later.

Save this tip for your next walkthrough.

Financial oversight is one of the most important — and most overlooked — responsibilities a nonprofit board carries.

An audit committee gives that oversight structure: reviewing financial statements, working with external auditors, evaluating internal controls, and reporting back to the full board. Done well, it builds trust with donors and grantors and helps catch issues early.

Governance and insurance work together here, not separately. Fidelity bonds, D&O liability, and fiduciary liability coverage address the financial exposures that oversight alone can't fully prevent — from fraud and theft to decisions made in good faith that are later challenged.

We put together a fuller look at both sides of this — audit committee responsibilities and the coverage that complements them. Read the full article, linked below.
