Mortgage rates dropped the first week of June, causing total mortgage application volume to surge nearly 16% compared with the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s seasonally adjusted index.
However, rates quickly jumped back up after a stronger-than-expected monthly employment report was issued at the end of the week.

Getting pre-approved is a great place to start the mortgage process. It gives you an idea of what you qualify for before starting the house hunt. This estimated loan amount is subject to credit approval. Here are a few other things to keep in mind:
- Start saving for a down payment
- Know your credit score
- Continue to pay bills on time
- Don't take on any new debts like credit cards, cars, boats, etc.
