PEA-SIZED HAIL LAST NIGHT.

20 minutes later, I received a phone call from an out-of-town storm chaser offering a "free roof inspection."

When I pointed out that the hail was only pea-sized, he assured me there was probably damage from a previous storm that I didn't even know about.

This is a good reminder to be cautious of storm chasers offering free hail inspections, especially those going door-to-door or calling immediately after a storm.

A few years ago, one of our clients had hail damage and had their roof replaced by a local roofer. A day or two later, a storm chaser knocked on the door and claimed the roof was severely damaged and needed to be replaced.

The storm chaser insisted there was damage, and said he could see it from the ground. The roof had already been replaced and hadn't even been rained on, yet they insisted the roof was destroyed.

Another client had a storm chaser show her close up photos of the damage to her roof. The problem was the shingles were a different color...it was not even her roof.

We've also seen clients lose deposits to contractors who disappeared, and we've seen poor workmanship create expensive problems years later.

If you think you may have hail damage, work with a reputable LOCAL contractor who will still be here down the road if there's a problem.

Hail damage happens. Just be smart about who you trust.
