They came to me for auto insurance because the price felt off… and it was. We took a look and saved them a few hundred pretty quickly.

Before we wrapped up, I asked if they’d ever really looked at their home insurance. They laughed—“Not really… it’s just in escrow.”

So we checked it.

Over 70% savings available.

Same (actually better) coverage… just way less money going out every year.

It’s more common than you’d think. Home insurance gets buried in the mortgage and quietly creeps up.

If you haven’t looked at yours in a while, it’s probably worth a quick check!

Blue may be a #1 seed and Green a #3, but Michigan weather has definitely come in looking for an upset!

This past week brought fallen power lines, hail-damaged cars, siding and gutters ripped off houses, roofs taking hits… and even a boat lift taken out by a tree from a hillside.

Some of those are exactly what insurance is built for. Others are just the kind of rare Michigan scenarios that don’t show up in any policy playbook — no matter the carrier.

Around here, March doesn’t just test brackets… it tests roofs, trees, and patience too. I guess even the weather likes a little tournament drama.

If your coverage needs a stronger lineup, I'm happy to help!

Does it almost feel warm today??!!?? 33* and some sunshine peeking through as we head into the weekend is quite the change from the last 3 weeks here in Michigan!

The weather "yo-yos" that are coming over the next couple weeks can be a bit of a workout for our homes. Just a few reminders for us:
1. Check the Sump Pump...this one is from personal experience. Ouch.
2. Check the Gutters and Drain the Puddles...ensure the bottom of the downspouts are clear of ice and snow so the water can flow away from the foundation of our homes
3. Watch out for Ice Dams...if there's a "problem spot" on your roof or a sidewalk that puddles, clear it today while it's soft! Don't let it become a block of ice overnight.

Feeling the Zeel, two girls came up to me afterwards, gave me high five and said "We thought this would be boring and that we wouldn't learn a thing but this was really fun!" I'll take that as a huge win for the day! What a great time teaming up with my friend, Dan, from ZRT. I love our community!

Why are some people talking about babies and car insurance?
You may have seen headlines about GEICO denying claims because a child wasn't listed on a policy. It sounds like a "gotcha," but here is the simple explanation:

In Michigan, your car insurance pays your medical bills if you're in a wreck. Because this coverage (PIP) extends to everyone living in your home, the state law requires us to account for every resident on your policy—even the ones in diapers!

The "Why": The insurance company is legally responsible for the medical risk of your whole household. If the list is outdated, it gives them a potential legal "fine print" excuse to delay a claim.

The Good News: ✅ It’s not a "trap," it’s just a paperwork requirement. ✅ It takes 2 minutes to fix.

Peace of Mind Check: Had a baby? Adopt? Parents moved in with you? Adult child just came back home? Send me a quick DM. I’ll make sure your list is current so your family is 100% protected—no "fine print" allowed.

Also, our carriers only ask for a true listing of names/DOB for those that are of driving age. Otherwise, we literally just type a number in a box of how many people live in your household.

Any other confusing, odd or weird insurance questions? Just ask!

Even Insurance Agents Get "Insurance-Splained"

We just got back from vacation and learned that rental car companies love a plot twist!

The agent told me I had to buy their extra coverage because our personal car isn't newer than 2020. No heads-up during booking, just a "Surprise! Give us more money."

The Plot Twist: Even though they didn't accept my auto insurance as sufficient, I knew my credit card offered some options. One phone call later and the rental company accepted it.

What I (re)learned while trying to get to the beach:

*The "Rules" are Fluid: Rental companies have their own playbooks that don't always match the norm

*Credit Cards can come in as an MVP: Many offer secondary (or even primary) coverage that saves your wallet.

*The Counter is a No-Fly Zone: It’s the worst place to learn about insurance.

Moral of the story: Even if you do this for a living, read the fine print. Also, pack extra patience—you just might need it.

Happy New Year, friends, and welcome to 2026! May this be a year full of joy and adventures!

Winter storms have started rolling in, and here’s one of the most misunderstood claims in home insurance…
A tree falls in your yard — and it’s not covered. Why?

Because homeowner's insurance only steps in when the tree causes actual damage to a structure on your property.

✔️ Tree hits your house → covered
✔️ Tree hits your garage or shed → covered
✔️ Tree hits your fence → usually covered
❌ Tree falls in the yard and hits NOTHING → not covered
❌ Insurance won’t pay to remove healthy trees that simply blew over

Most policies only cover tree removal when it's blocking a driveway, disability access, or causing additional danger — and even then, limits are usually low.

I know, it feels frustrating to me as well… a giant tree falls, and somehow that’s “not an insurance claim.”
But the rule is simple: Insurance covers damage, not yard cleanup.

If you’ve got questionable trees, snapped limbs, or storm-weakened branches, send me a photo. I’ll tell you what’s likely covered so you don’t waste time or get surprised at claim time

Opening weekend of deer season is here! 🦌
A quick reminder: Comprehensive coverage is what protects your vehicle if you hit a deer or if a deer hits you (yes… it happens).
If you’re heading out early in the mornings or driving at dusk, stay alert — and if you’re not sure you have comp on your policy, message me and I’ll double-check it for you.
