What a great thing
Sheriff Steve McMahan has announced the return of the Safe Ride Home Program for New Year’s Eve, a joint effort between the Greer County Sheriff’s Office, Mangum and Granite Police, and Fire Departments to help prevent impaired driving.
New Year’s Eve is one of the most dangerous nights of the year to drive, with DUI arrests spiking nationwide. Locally, the program has been highly successful, with zero impaired-driving crashes during the past three New Year’s Eve events.
“Our goal is simple,” Sheriff McMahan said. “We want everyone to celebrate, but more importantly, we want everyone to make it home safely. If you’ve been drinking, don’t take the risk, call us. We would much rather give you a ride home than respond to a tragic accident.”
The Safe Ride Home Program will be available from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. Anyone needing a ride home can call 580-782-3065, 580-782-3382, or 580-535,2177. A deputy or officer will provide a free ride home within Greer County.
Celebrate responsibly. Arrive alive.
