One of the rating factors that goes into home insurance rates is how far you are away from a fire hydrant for this exact reason.

"The closest fire hydrant was two miles away. The Chattanooga Fire Department had to start drafting water from the Tennessee River to get additional water to the scene and put the fire out."

Before purchasing a home, make sure you take in to consideration how far your home is away from the closest fire hydrant. Not only will a close fire hydrant help save on your homeowner premium, but it could help save your home from being totally destroyed.

The home is a total loss but no one was injured. Crews faced a number of challenges as the nearest fire hydrant was two miles away.

Very Interesting Article on some of the insurance companies responses to the victims from the Surfside Condo Collapse.

Insurance is for the unpredictable, and when the unpredictable happens the last thing you want to worry about is your insurance policy.

Always review your policy renewals to make sure you are adequately covered!

These Surfside condo owners survived a harrowing disaster. Now they're forced to battle with big insurers.

Here is a home sitting on the edge of a sinkhole in New Mexico. Fun Fact, most homeowner insurance policies do not provide sinkhole coverage automatically, it is a coverage that usually has to be endorsed(added) by the insured.

This coverage usually ranges from $20-$40 a year roughly.

Personally, this is a risk that I take and my homeowners policy is not endorsed with sinkhole coverage. However, I do believe it is my job to inform you as much as possible so that you can make your own decision on whether to transfer a risk like this to insurance or decide to retain it yourself!

All individuals and families have personal liability loss exposures that can reduce their financial assets. Owning property comes with liability loss exposures. For example: If a homeowner has a guest over to their home, and the guest is on their back deck and falls off the deck and is injured, the guest might sue the homeowner, who then may be required to pay damages for the resulting medical expenses and wages the guest loses during recovery. This is because the homeowner has a legal duty to ensure the deck is safe. Liability limits are INCREDIBLY cheap to increase on your homeowner’s insurance policy.

I ALWAYS max out homeowner liability coverage on each policy that I write to help transfer as much liability risk as possible away from the client. If your homeowner’s policy does not currently have $500,000+ in liability coverage, call your agent today to see what the cost would be to max the coverage out. Do not wait!
