February is a big month for farm risk management!!! It is the Price Discovery Period for spring planted crops, such as corn and soybeans.

During the price discovery period, each daily settlement price of December corn and November Soybean future contracts are recorded. The daily recorded prices are averaged to calculate the established prices. These established prices are then used to determine crop insurance revenue guarantees and premiums.

Now until March 15th we will be very busy meeting clients for renewal meetings. These meetings are very important to make sure we are managing both price and yield risks with the best strategy for your farm.

If you are not a client, and would like to learn more about crop insurance or get a second opinion obout your coverage, please give me a call. We have had a couple clients retire and would be interested in building a few new client relationships!

The application/renewal/transfer/cancellation deadline for spring planted crops is March 15th. Don’t delay giving me a call if you would like to work with us in 2026!

Corn and Soybean base price discovery period started today! Nice to see it start with green numbers. Your Revenue guarantee = APH Yield X Base Price X Elected coverage level.

The base prices used for crop insurance is the average of February’s daily settlement prices of the November Soybean Contract and the December Corn Contract. These prices have a SIGNIFICANT impact on your crop insurance revenue guarantees and premiums.

Everyone should visit with their agent prior to the March 15th sales closing deadline to review their elections. I especially believe that to be even more important this year with tighter margins, uncertainty with trade, and increased premium subsidies for Enhanced Coverage Option.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to schedule an appointment. (937) 481-4225

Harvest pricing period is completed for corn and soybeans! Corn = $4.16 and Soybeans = $10.03. Make sure to check your revenue guarantee to see if you have a claim. The formula to determine a claim is:

Bushels produced X Harvest price = Revenue to count.

If your revenue to count is less than your liability/Revenue Guarantee, you have a claim! We will pay the difference between your Liability/Revenue guarantee and your revenue to count.

This weather is bound to straighten up eventually…when it does, remember a couple things!!!!

1). Call or text to open a replant claim prior to replanting. You must be given consent to replant from an adjuster or you will not be paid a replant payment.

2) The final plant date for corn is June 5th. If you have not finished planting your intended corn acres by June 5th. Call or text, so we can discuss prevented planting and late planting options.

3) The final plant date for soybeans is June 20th…this one is a ways away 🤞 things straighten up before then…but call or text if not finished planting soybeans by June 20th!!!

4) Acreage reporting. Please report your planted acres to the Farm Service Agency as soon as you finish planting. Have them email me a copy of your 578 producer print. Then text or call me to let me know you certified (they get busy and sometimes forget to email it)…also we will schedule a time for you to review and sign our acreage report after we receive your data.
