United Airlines Negotiations Update:

May 21, 2026

IAM Members at United Airlines,

IAM District 141 is pleased to announce that Agreements in Principle have been reached through the collective bargaining process.
These agreements cover approximately 32,000 IAM-represented employees across seven contracts.

After months of determined negotiations and the unwavering solidarity of our membership, we have achieved a historic milestone.
Reaching these agreements less than 30 days after the scheduled May 1 wage increase demonstrates the strength, resolve, and unity
of our members across the system.

This proposed five-year agreement delivers meaningful gains and industry-leading improvements, including:

• Industry-leading wage rates across every contract

• 1-step reduction of wage scale progressions

• Expansion of Observed Holidays from 6 to 10

• System-wide layoff protections for all employees on the payroll as of the Date of Ratification

• Improved vacation accrual and enhanced retirement benefits throughout the life of the agreement

• Paid maternity and parental leave

• Stronger grievance procedure protections

• An end to the unlimited use of relief lines

• A signing bonus

• Numerous additional contractual improvements that will directly benefit our members and their families

Complete details outlining all negotiated changes will be made available to the membership no later than Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The District 141 United Airlines Negotiations Committee is currently finalizing the language and preparing the ratification process and schedule.

These achievements were made possible because of the solidarity, patience, and support shown by IAM members throughout this process. Your determination strengthened our position at the bargaining table every step of the way.

I also want to recognize and thank the District 141 Negotiations Committee for their tireless work and steadfast commitment to protecting our membership's interests. Additionally, I extend my appreciation to Air Transport General Vice President Richie Johnsen and his staff for their continued guidance and support throughout negotiations.

This agreement represents more than contractual gains; it reflects the power of unity and the value of standing together in solidarity.

The IAM Union Released the Following Statement on Governor of Virginia Abigail Spanberger’s Veto of Collective Bargaining Legislation:

"The IAM Union is deeply disappointed by Gov. Spanberger’s veto of legislation that would have guaranteed collective bargaining rights for Virginia public sector workers. Every worker deserves a voice on the job and the freedom to negotiate for fair wages, benefits and working conditions.

"Virginia workers have waited far too long for these basic rights, and this veto is a massive missed opportunity to move the Commonwealth forward. The IAM Union stands in solidarity with all working people across Virginia as the fight for collective bargaining rights continues."

UNITED AIRLINES NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE:

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

IAM District 141 and United Airlines management continued contract negotiations last week in Denver for the 30,000 workers covered under our seven collective bargaining agreements.

Significant progress was made regarding wage improvements, vacation accrual, paid holidays, and job security language. However, a gap remains concerning retirement benefits for our members. We have exchanged proposals that we believe provide fair compensation for your respective classifications and are currently awaiting a response from the company.

We continue to fight for the overall compensation you deserve and are cautiously optimistic about reaching a tentative agreement by the end of this month. We will provide an update immediately upon receiving further word from United Airlines.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact a District Officer to ensure you receive accurate information. You can also stay informed by speaking with any member of your negotiation team or by signing up for updates at iam141.org (http://iam141.org/).

In Solidarity,
Michael Klemm

Yesterday was Workers Memorial Day, a day set aside to remember workers who lost their lives on the job and to recommit ourselves to the fight for safer workplaces.

IAMAW Local 1759 has four fallen members recognized at the IAM Workers Memorial at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center. This memorial serves as a lasting tribute to IAM members who lost their lives while on the job.

The four members from our Local honored at the memorial are:

Richard Pasceralla
Frank Testa
Lawrence Ellerbe
Eduardo Tlatempa

We remember their names. We honor their lives. And we continue the fight for stronger safety protections, better working conditions, and the basic belief that every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of the day.

Last weekend, members of IAM Local 1759 attended the Virginia State Council of Machinists near Richmond, Virginia. It was a strong weekend of solidarity, discussion, and action as we joined with IAM Locals and workers from industries across the Commonwealth.
Throughout the weekend, we heard from a number of speakers and took part in important conversations about the many working family bills we successfully lobbied for, including sick time legislation that covers airline workers. Many of these important bills are now sitting on Governor Spanberger’s desk waiting to be signed, and we remain hopeful that these hard fought gains for working people will soon become law.
We were also proud to help raise money for MNPL and to have one of the largest turnouts at the Virginia Machinists Council that we can remember. Local 1759 showed up strong and represented our membership well.
We are especially proud that Local 1759 continues to play a leadership role within the Virginia Machinists Council, with Bill Peer serving as Vice President, Ali Yusuf serving as Secretary Treasurer, and Shoshana Eletu serving as Northern Political Coordinator.
Local 1759 looks forward to continuing to work alongside our fellow Locals across Virginia as we fight for labor rights, protect working families, and build a stronger future for all union members. Virginia Machinists Council
