Our Story

It all started with two friends who had a dream of starting a business together. Billy Taylor and Pat Brown wanted to help people in their local community and provide them with a service they could really use. When the two tossed around the idea of opening a finance company that could help everyday people with small loans, it made perfect sense. In January of 2017, with the support of several trusted friends and advisors, Hometown Finance was born. Before that, Pat had spent 21 years as a partner at Tate Farms, where he undertook a wide range of financial management and crop production responsibilities. Pat had worked for the family business since he was twelve years old, so when he chose to leave Tate Farms and begin a new chapter in his life, it was a major life decision. From there, the story gets even better. Pat’s son, Clay, who had been pursuing a horticulture degree at Auburn, decided he wanted to join his dad and help build the business from day one. Clay came home, changed his course of study to accounting, and began taking online classes while also working at Hometown Finance. Today, the father and son team work together to help make life a little easier for people in their community. They are building relationships, meeting new friends, and helping their customers find solutions to everyday financial challenges.
