Loan Officer Job Announcement
Background
Redbud Financial Alternatives, Inc. is a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Hazard, Kentucky, serving Breathitt, Knott, Leslie, Perry, and surrounding counties in Eastern Kentucky. We are organized to foster, facilitate, and promote community and economic development among underserved and economically distressed communities. We do this by building the financial capability of our community members.
Redbud transforms credit from an obstacle to an opportunity for Appalachian Kentuckians through strong community partnerships and the strategic pairing of responsible loan products with relevant financial education and coaching. While we currently focus on consumer and auto lending, we anticipate expanding into additional loan products over time, including home purchase mortgages. Redbud is a rapidly growing organization with many opportunities for innovation and creativity.
Position Summary
Redbud seeks an initiative-taking, curious, and mission-driven Loan Officer to manage all aspects of loan origination activities. The Loan Officer will facilitate the efficient and accurate origination, processing, underwriting, and closing of loans for Redbud Financial Alternatives, Inc. lending efforts, including small-dollar, debt consolidation, personal, and auto loans. The Loan Officer will perform a variety of duties to meet the needs of qualified borrowers and will work in collaboration with the leadership team to identify challenges, design, and deliver lending solutions. The position is available immediately.
Responsibilities:
1. Business Development and Loan Origination (60%)
a. Oversee the lending process, including the origination, due diligence of complete loan applications, deal structuring, and preparing and presenting credit memos to the loan committee for approval, ensuring these activities are in alignment with Redbud Financial Alternatives, Inc.'s mission and policies.
b. Responsible for Redbud Financial Alternatives, Inc.’s capital deployment to meet organizational goals and objectives.
c. Collaborating and coordinating across the leadership team to bring the full continuum of capital and support to our borrowers and partners.
d. Provide friendly, helpful, and clear customer service to borrowers, lending participants, and other partners involved in the loan.
e. Collaborate with the leadership team to create, pilot, and implement new loan products and initiatives that are responsive to the needs of historically disinvested communities that encompass Redbud Financial Alternatives Inc.’s Target Market.
f. Clearly articulate Redbud Financial Alternatives Inc.’s mission and product offerings in the community and collaborate with staff on related marketing and PR materials.
g. Prepare written documents to establish contracts with or communicate financial recommendations to clients.
2. Loan Administration and Portfolio Management (30%)
a. Collaborate with the leadership team to manage the portfolio, ensuring borrower compliance and overseeing loan reviews.
3. Management of Lending Programs (10%)
a. Facilitate loan pipeline meetings.
b. Manage funding availability.
c. Responsible for the management of pipelines, parameters, and processes for lending initiatives.
d. Maintain strong, positive, effective, and productive relationships with key partners.
Requirements
REQUIRED – While the ideal candidate will have lending experience, Redbud is prioritizing searching for a highly motivated and mission-minded individual who is passionate about rural communities and/or Appalachia.
Education and experience
• 2+ years of relevant experience and/or a bachelor’s degree in a related field
Skills and competencies
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, including verbal and written skills.
• Ability to integrate thoroughness and attention to detail with a big picture, strategic vision.
• Passion and respect for Appalachia and the challenges of rural, persistent poverty communities and the families living in them.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to deliver financial education to management, the board, committees, funders, policy makers, and outside groups.
• Collaborative spirit and positive attitude.
• Comfort with technology, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel), apps, and cloud-based software.
• Patience with repetitive tasks that require attention to detail.
• Willingness to think creatively.
PREFERRED
• 2+ years of lending experience
• 2+ years of non-profit experience
• 2+ years of CDFI experience
• 2+ years of customer service
• Familiarity with Salesforce
Compensation
$45,000 to $50,000 with excellent benefits and growth potential
