We’re excited to shine the spotlight on Tara, who has been a valued part of the Bank of Hays team for an incredible 18 years! 💙

Tara serves as our Real Estate Loan Officer. Her passion for lending started back in high school after getting her first auto loan. She enjoyed the process so much that she knew she wanted to become a loan officer and help others achieve their own goals and dreams.

When Tara isn’t helping customers, you’ll likely find her following her kids around to their sporting activities, especially baseball and volleyball. She also loves spending a free weekend at the lake. 🌊

Her favorite game is Aggravation, and her favorite way to unwind after a busy week is sitting on her back porch, listening to music, and watching the sunset. 🌅

⚠️ Fraud Alert: Be Cautious When Ordering Checks Online

We want to make our customers aware of a scam we recently discovered.

A customer placed a legitimate check order online and later noticed an unfamiliar transaction on their account. During our investigation, we learned that scammers were using stolen account information to order checks as part of a fake remote job scam.

In this scam, victims are offered a “job” and told they need to deposit or write checks for payroll purposes. The checks are actually tied to someone else’s account and are fraudulent.

Protect yourself:
✅ Be cautious of unexpected job offers, especially remote positions.
✅ Never deposit, cash, or use checks from someone you cannot verify.
✅ Monitor your account regularly and report suspicious activity right away.

Scammers are always finding new ways to target consumers. If something doesn’t seem right, contact us—we’re here to help protect you and your finances.

In her career, Michelle has learned an important life lesson: Never judge a book by its cover. She believes people can surprise you in the best ways and that everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt—and a little grace.

When she's not at the bank, Michelle enjoys camping and loves spending time with friends to relax and recharge after a busy week.

As a child, Michelle dreamed of becoming a lawyer or an accountant, but today, the title she's most proud of is Mom and Grandma. She recently became a grandma in April, and she's looking forward to spending the years ahead watching her grandchild grow, learn, and chase their dreams.

✅ Use online/mobile banking to track and verify check activity

✅ Consider electronic payments like ACH or e-checks

1. Contact your bank and request copies of the fraudulent checks.
2. Provide detailed info about when and how you mailed the check.
