Home Sold: A Personal Reflection on the Journey

Selling a deceased loved one’s home is a journey that is as much about letting go as it is about moving forward. As I reflect on this experience, I realize that it has been filled with profound emotional lessons. Cleaning out 93 years of life has taught me that material possessions are not what truly matter; rather, it is our relationships with those we love and the moments we share that leave a lasting impact.

Chris and I dedicated countless hours to sorting through boxes brimming with memories—photos, antiques, and cherished treasures. Each item we encountered held a story, and we learned to keep only those that resonated with us on a deeper level. This process reinforced a valuable lesson: minimize when you can, and hold onto what truly matters.

The weight of this responsibility was heavier than we could have ever imagined. The emotional, mental, and physical toll it took on us and our family members was overwhelming at times. If you’ve gone through this process, you understand the stress—it can feel like an endless cycle of sorting and decision-making. Yet, despite the challenges, we emerged from it stronger, and the house has found a new owner ready to begin their own chapter.

As we close this significant chapter, our home is filled with memories, but it’s time to let go of even more—deciding what to keep, sell, or donate. This journey has served as a poignant reminder that, in the end, it’s the love we share and the memories we create that truly matter.
