If the weather people are wrong, the worst that can happen is that you simply lost time in preparation. Go ahead and do it anyway!

Also, now is the time to trim weak tree limbs around the house, insulate exposed pipes, get charcoal or propane for your outdoor grill in case you need to use it (loss of power)

Stay home when road conditions deteriorate. This is not the time to test your insurance coverage.

A major winter storm and potential ice storm will move through the Eastern U.S. this weekend. Impacts are expected in north Georgia and now is the time to prepare! The forecast isn't as certain for central Georgia, but this is still a situation you should monitor closely.

Road conditions have begun to deteriorate. Conditions are expected to continue to decline, particularly between Macon and Columbus. Use extra caution when driving on snowy, icy, or wet roadways and visit 511ga.org to see current road conditions.

Be weather aware!

The best winter storm preparation goes beyond buying milk, egg, and bread.

Never leave a space heater unattended.

Do not heat your house with an oven

Prevent frozen and cracked pipes by

*Insulating outside/exposed pipes especially in unheated areas like garage, attics, exterior walls
* Letting the faucet trickle until temperature rises above freezing

*Opening cabinets under the sink to let warm air circulate through the pipes.

Do get supplies before the weather arrives. This is not the time to learn how to drive on ice!

⚠️ Winter Storm Potential ⚠️ - 1/15/2026 12PM Update
We are monitoring the potential for a winter storm across portions of the Southeast US (including Georgia) from Saturday night through Sunday. There is a growing chance (15-30%) for snow of a 1/2" or more in parts of the area. Confidence is VERY LOW in the forecast, but residents of GA should at least anticipate the possibility for travel impacts on Sunday. Potential outcomes from this system range from no snow or impacts, to widespread snow with significant impacts. Please stay tuned for more updates, and only follow trusted sources of weather information!
