Hey there friends! Long time since I’ve last posted on here. I’m pleased to share that one of our friends that was a HUGE part of our event has shared that he’s holding a fundraising event in March and I wanted to make you all aware about it. Wayne Short is the Volunteer Event Organizer for this event. Wayne was a top earner for St. Baldrick’s HdG for many years and has contributed thousands of hours and dollars to fight childhood cancer research through St. Baldrick’s and he’s continuing his efforts. Dear fellow St. Baldrick’s friends,

At last years event I made the difficult announcement that I was looking for somebody to pass the torch to for our Havre De Grace event. I explained to those in attendance that my career path had taken some turns over the last few years and with retirement in sight it deserves my full attention. I asked that anyone interested in taking over the role of Volunteer Event Organizer to please contact me and I would work with them this year to make sure the transition would flow smoothly. I haven’t had anyone reach out with interest to take over and since that announcement I have taken on even more responsibilities at work, and I am busier than ever with my role at the fire department and in my personal life. I have also procrastinated (which I am pretty good at) and have not secured a venue for the 2024 SBHdG event. As time gets closer to when we like to have the event, I feel that I need to make the difficult decision to postpone this years HdG event.
I know that many of you are preparing to shave at our event and have been growing your hair out for our big day. I do apologize for my procrastination in making this difficult decision. With that said there are several options to remain active and to participate in the St. Baldrick’s fundraising campaign. One of those is I can activate the HdG event page, and you could continue your own personal fundraising page with our event and do a virtual shave. Option 2, On March 9th there is a SB event being held at Looney’s in Bel Air, MD. You can start a team (Ie. TEAM HdG or TEAM BWI Firefighters) or just register for their event and do exactly what you have done for our event in the past and that is raise funds for Childhood Cancers Research. Hell, I will come out and cheer you on as you get shaved! Lastly, you can also find another event in the area and join with them. What ever you decide I will try to help you in any way possible so you can continue to raise funds for the event that has meant so much to all of us over the past 10 years. This decision has not been easy and as I am writing this my heart is hurting knowing that I have let so many people down. Please accept my deepest apologies and hope that maybe in 2025 we can pick up where we left off with one of the best events in the area.

The address for La St. Baldrick's Havre de Grace - La Banque de Fleuve is 321 St. John's Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. It is at the Sea Plane Base around back of the buildings.

If you find a parking spot along a street in town please by all means use it as long as it isn't restricted for any reason. BUT see below.

Picture 2 shows the venue in green highlight. Parking is in red at David Craig park 553 N. Union Ave., behind the city water plant at 415 St. John's street and behind Brookbend at 233 St. John's street.

Picture 3 show the Handicapped accessible access. Come down Franklin Street between Mac Gregor's and Tidewater Grille there is access there. The food truck will leave room for those who need access without stairs.

I hope to see a lot of you out on Saturday. Don't let the rain discourage you. We have a couple big tents to protect you from the elements.

We are just 3 days away from our head shaving event in beautiful downtown Havre de Grace. We are monitoring the weather and have made some moves to the set up of the event well before this week that will play into our favor with the predicted rain on Saturday. THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT. The stage, DJ booth, the registration/treasures table and a bar will be set up inside the big tent. The raffle items and sport memorabilia will be in the smaller tent area. BRING UMBRELLAS/Rain jackets.

Laurrapin Catering will be onsite and set up with a limited menu of burgers, dogs, chicken sandwiches as well as a vegetarian option and a full cash bar. Please take care of the staff as they are there to provide a service to you.

We have 50 shavees scheduled and we will begin shaving at 1230 sharp (the event starts at 12pm HIGH NOON). Please arrive no less than 15 mins before your scheduled shave time and report to the registration table to let them know that you're on site and to turn in any cash/checks that you might have. Don't forget to pick up your SB shirt. If you didn't let St. Baldrick's know what size you wear don't be upset if we don't have a shirt for you. Also, if you were late to register we might not have one for you. We can order them after the event. They sent some extras so hopefully we can accommodate you.

If you have the time to stick around after the event to help clean up it will be greatly appreciated. This is always an issue with our events in the past. Your help is welcomed and appreciated. THANK YOU! The last scheduled shave is set for 5pm. We should be out of there by 6pm with help cleaning up.

Raffle baskets-if you are donating a raffle baskets we need them onsite by 12pm! If you can make a small description of the raffle item on an index card/paper it will be greatly appreciated. Raffles will be drawn at 4pm! I will need help with the raffle table so if you are looking for something to do please see me if you are coming early to help set up and to volunteer for the day.

The stage will be getting set up by Chesapeake Rent all in the morning so it will be a bit of a scramble once it is in place to get ready. Your help is appreciated.
