Lucy spent the summer interning with Lockton Companies, rotating through different teams to experience multiple sides of the brokerage business. Along the way, Lucy gained hands-on experience in risk solutions, people solutions, analytics, and sales. Lucy also researched how Microsoft Copilot Premium could support Lockton's People Solutions practice and presented those findings at Lockton's headquarters!

One of the biggest takeaways from the summer was the value of genuine curiosity and learning how to ask intentional questions. Best of all, Lucy will be returning to Lockton full time after graduation. Congratulations, Lucy!

We're so proud to share that one of our beloved Scott Scholars, Sam, was surprised today as the recipient of a vehicle through the Wheels for Work program! 🚗

He was nominated by Jessica Johnson due to his incredibly generous work as a volunteer at the Hastings Literacy Program. Sam is the embodiment of ‘Be a giver, not a taker’ (one of our program’s favorite Walter Scott Jr. values) and is such an impactful part of our program. We can't think of anyone more deserving and we're excited to see where the road takes him next!

A huge THANK YOU to the United Way of South Central Nebraska and Hastings Ford for making this special gift possible!

Wheels for Work starts with vehicles donated by generous community members. Hastings Ford inspects, repairs, and professionally cleans each one, and it's then matched with a local family nominated by one of United Way's partner agencies. Every vehicle stays local and serves families in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls, and Webster counties.

This summer, Sara and Abby explored Nebraska as the kickoff trip for the Scott Scholar Passport Program that Sara started. The program is designed to give Scott Scholars the ability to explore Nebraska without having to worry about expenses.

They traveled to the Kiewit Luminarium, the Joslyn Art Museum, the Lauritzen Gardens, and the International Quilt Museum! They learned that there is so much more to do in Nebraska than people think, and they want everyone to have the opportunity to explore Nebraska.

Wyatt spent his summer interning with UFarm where he gained hands-on experience in agricultural real estate and management. He flew drones to capture aerial imagery of managed properties helping clients and tenants track crop progress, disease, and weather impacts. He became FAA certified in small unmanned aircraft systems.

Wyatt also had the chance to shadow appraisers, brokers, and farm managers, which gave him a deeper understanding to the different sides of the industry. His favorite part was how open everyone was to his questions and the unique perspectives he gained on agriculture beyond what he had known before!

Last Wednesday was our academic showcase. Many of our scholars had the opportunity to present the projects they have been working on throughout the year and got recognized for the hard work and dedication that they have shown both inside and outside of the classroom.

Reminiscing on the second day of the first year Scott Scholars trip to Lincoln and Omaha!

To start the day off, the Scholars met with Nebraska Governor, Jim Pillen, (and his sweet dog, Daisy!) to learn about his policies and what he enjoys about being governor.

They then headed to Walter Scott's beautiful home in Omaha, where they were given a tour and told all about his accomplishments and his fun and family-oriented personality.

To finish the day out, they had a workshop with former Navy Seal, Brad Woodard. He taught them about the importance of team mentality and covering for each other.
