Axes, Bows & Arrows — Oh My! 🎯
Some boys are simply born with mud on their boots and curiosity in their hearts.
Since he was just two years old, our son has been drawn to the outdoors. The woods are his playground — a place to explore, imagine, climb, and discover. Running barefoot through the grass, coming home covered in dirt, mud, and the occasional scratch is just part of daily life in our house… and honestly, it feels a bit like a badge of honor after a full summer day.
While he certainly has the build for sports — and comes from a long line of linebackers (literally!) — his heart has always leaned a little more toward the woods than the soccer field. Hunting, gathering, exploring, and learning the rhythms of nature seem to capture his imagination in a special way.
As parents, we’ve tried to encourage the things that truly spark his curiosity and embrace the person he is becoming.
So when my friend Karly mentioned a free outdoor expo where kids could try archery, catch a real fish, and experience hands-on sportsman activities in a safe environment, we knew it was something he would love.
And love it he did.
The 2½ hours we spent there will likely live on as one of those core childhood memories — the kind that shape interests, confidence, and character. Beyond the excitement of bows, arrows, and fishing lines, it also planted seeds of something even more meaningful: an appreciation for the outdoors and an understanding of how important it is to care for and steward the beautiful land God has entrusted to us.
To everyone who helped plan and host this experience — thank you. Opportunities like this matter more than you know, and our family is incredibly grateful. 🌿
